My Story Begins with a Life-Changing Moment
In August 2020, while the world was still locked down from COVID-19 and uncertainty was everywhere, everything changed for me. As I held my newborn daughter Sade for the first time—skin to skin in that hospital room—I made a promise that would transform not just my family's future, but the lives of others as well. Even though the world felt trapped and confined, I refused to let our dreams be boxed in by circumstance. At the time, I was living in a cramped 200-square-foot bedroom in a shared 2-bedroom walk-up. I knew my daughter deserved more. But like so many people in my community, I believed homeownership was out of reach—until that moment. I decided to stop letting fear and doubtdictate my future. I chose to believe something better was possible.
My Life Was in a Box
Living in that 200-square-foot room felt like being inside a box—tight, limited, with dreams that felt too big for the space around me. But sometimes pressure creates the breakthrough we need. With my newborn daughter as my motivation, I began the home buying process while still in the hospital. Ninety days later, I closed on my first home. I proved to myself—and now to
others—that no matter how small your current space, your dreams don’t have to stay inside that box.
